To test your reading fluency, we use the Dibel's Reading Assessment. If you're interested in improving your fluency, print out some of these passages and practice at home. Your goal should be to read more than 100 words per minute on the "4th Grade Ave" passages. Use a stopwatch and check your fluency, or practice with a parent! The only way to become a better reader is to practice, practice, practice!

Haiku
As you looked at your bonus spelling words this week, you may have asked yourself, "What in the world is a Haiku?" A Haiku is a three-line, Japanese poem. It is usually written about nature, and it follows the syllable pattern 5-7-5.
Example:
The leaves are falling (5 syllables)
They are brown, yellow, and green (7 syllables)
Leaves are everywhere. (5 syllables)
Can you write your own Haiku?
